HA2 Task 3 - Graphic Types

HA2 – Task 3 – Graphic Types

PIXEL ART
“Pixel art is a form of digital art, created through the use of raster graphics software, where images are edited on the pixellevel. Graphics in most old (or relatively limited) computer, console, graphing calculator and mobile phone video games are mostly pixel art.”

CONCEPT ART
“Concept art is a form of illustration used to convey an idea for use in (but not limited to) films, video games, animation, orcomic books before it is put into the final product.[1] Concept art is also referred to as visual development and/or concept design.[2] This term can also be applied to retail design, set design, fashion design, architectural design and industrial design.”

TEXTURE ART
“In the visual arts, texture is the perceived surface quality of a work of art. It is an element of two-dimensional and three-dimensional design and is distinguished by its perceived visual and physical properties. Use of texture, along with other elements of design, can convey a variety of messages and emotions.”

BACKGROUND GRAPHICS
“The ground or scenery located behind something.
The part of a pictorial representation that appears to be in the distance and that provides relief for the principal objects in the foreground.
The general scene or surface against which designs, patterns, or figures are represented or viewed.”

HA2 – Task 2 – Artistic Styles

PHOTOREALISM
“Photorealism is a genre of art that encompasses painting, drawing and other graphic mediums, in which an artist studies a photograph and then attempts to reproduce the image as realistically as possible in another medium. Although the term can be used to broadly describe artworks in many different mediums, it is also used to refer specifically to a group of paintings and painters of the United States art movement that began in the late 1960s and early 1970s.”

CEL SHADING
“Cel shading (often misspelled as 'cell shading') or toon shading is a type of non-photorealistic rendering designed to make 3-D computer graphics appear to be flat by using less shading colour instead of a shade gradient or Tints and shades. Cel-shading is often used to mimic the style of a comic book or cartoon. It is somewhat recent, appearing from around the beginning of the twenty-first century. The name comes from cels (short for celluloid), the clear sheets of acetate which are painted on for use in traditional 2D animation”

ABSTRACTION
“Abstract art uses a visual language of form, colour and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. [1] Western art had been, from the Renaissance up to the middle of the 19th century, underpinned by the logic of perspective and an attempt to reproduce an illusion of visible reality. The arts of cultures other than the European had become accessible and showed alternative ways of describing visual experience to the artist. By the end of the 19th century many artists felt a need to create a new kind of art which would encompass the fundamental changes taking place in technology, science and philosophy. The sources from which individual artists drew their theoretical arguments were diverse, and reflected the social and intellectual preoccupations in all areas of Western culture at that time.”

EXAGGERATION
“Exaggeration is a representation of something in an excessive manner. The exaggerator has been a familiar figure in Western culture since at least Aristotle's discussion of the amazon: 'the boaster is regarded as one who pretends to have distinguished qualities which he possesses either not at all or to a lesser degree than he pretends...exaggerating”

HA3 Task 1 Game Setting Research

Task 1 Game Setting

My Game is set in the near future of 2100 onwards, where alien races have come into contact with humans for some time, and in this time, the humans and the races have joined alliances and also had arguments of religious issues. a terrorist group called WAT have seized some power while these issues were discussed against everything that is human. cause chaos and death at every turn, but on every planets not just Earth.

at the year 2130 a new breed of alien was born a Kuron, a mixture between four of the alien races, part Human, Kratonian, Aliet and Uthgardian. this race was faster, stronger and smarter then the rest of the galaxy and were fond of being WAT's targets.

You take on the role of a young Kuron in the midst of destruction Travis Frankza member of a Kratonian Clan travel across the stars to gain information and knowledge with your father, mother and 3 brothers. through time you gain new insights and new adventure. when you hit the legal age to join the Alliance, you do so without a moments hesitance as you have lost your hometown and many friends due to WAT's path of terror.

some years have passed and you have lost your father due to a traitor in the alliance, you set your eyes on him with your squad, brothers and Best friend Eddie. defying what the alliance is all about you must defeat all who stands in your path for vengeance.

many years have past from this still. still blood thirsty Travis cannot find his fathers killer as a Virus has swept through the land, turning people into the dead, then back again, through bite, scratch or whatever they can use in their primitive state.

Travis and his friends forge a Clan called New Echo hoping to draft in some survivors to fight against all sides, Alliance, WAT, and the new Lithe Virus. all hope is gone, death surrounds you at every turn. with your family, planets and slowly everyone dead, you are the Last Kuron.

HA2 Task 1 Technical Glossary

HA2 Game Graphics Now - Task 1 – Technical Glossary
PIXEL;
“a minute area of illumination on a display screen, one of many from which an image is composed.”

RESOLUTION;
“Refers to the sharpness and clarity of an image. The term is most often used to describe monitors, printers, and bit-mapped graphic images. In the case of dot-matrix and laser printers, the resolution indicates the number of dots per inch. For example, a 300-dpi (dots per inch) printer is one that is capable of printing 300 distinction dots in a line 1 inch long. This means it can print 90,000 dots per square inch.”

VECTOR IMAGE;
“Vector graphics is the use of geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves, and shapes or polygons—all of which are based on mathematical expressions—to represent images in computer graphics.[1] Vector graphics are based on vectors (also called paths or strokes), which lead through locations called control points or nodes. Each of these points has a definite position on the x and y axes of the work plane and determines the direction of the path; further, each path may be assigned a stroke color, shape, thickness, and fill.[2] These properties don't increase the size of vector graphics files in a substantial manner, as all information resides in the document's structure, which describes solely how the vector should be drawn.”

RASTER IMAGE;
“In computer graphics, a raster graphics image, or bitmap, is a dot matrix data structure representing a generally rectangular grid of pixels, or points of color, view able via a monitor, paper, or other display medium. Raster images are stored in image files with varying formats”

FILE FORMATS AND USES -  bmp, png, gif, tiff, jpg, psd, pdf, eps and ai;

COMPRESSION;
“Data compression is particularly useful in communications because it enables devices to transmit or store the same amount of data in fewer bits. There are a variety of data compression techniques, but only a few have been standardized. The CCITT has defined a standard data compression technique for transmitting faxes (Group 3 standard) and a compression standard for data communications through modems (CCITT V.42bis). In addition, there are file compression formats, such as ARC and ZIP.”

IMAGE CAPTURE DEVICES;
“image capture (image acquisition) The process of obtaining a digital image from a vision sensor, such as a camera. Usually this entails a hardware interface known as a frame grabber, which captures single frames of video, converts the analogue values to digital, and feeds the result into the computer memory. The conversion process is often accompanied with image compression.”

OPTIMIZING;
“to write or rewrite (the instructions in a program) so as to maximize efficiency and speeding retrieval, storage, or execution.”

STORAGE AND ASSET MANAGEMENT;
“Digital asset management (DAM) consists of management tasks and decisions surrounding the ingestion, annotation, cataloging, storage, retrieval and distribution of digital assets. Digital photographs, animations, videos and music exemplify the target areas of media asset management”
